Building Connections Through Women’s Refresh Weekend

When it comes to connections made through Victory Lane, women are often the glue. At camp sessions and family activities, however, they are usually managing multiple responsibilities and don’t always get the chance to spend one-on-one time with each other. The Women’s Refresh weekend, made possible in part by generous donors, is an opportunity for them to experience encouragement and relationship building.

This year’s Refresh Weekend happened in Shipshewana, Indiana, and included women from Partner and Victory Families. The women spent the weekend enjoying outdoor activities while bonding with each other.

Alyn Kay and her family have been a part of Victory Lane since 2018, and this year she was able to attend her first Women’s Refresh weekend. Alyn’s family lives in Michigan but learned about Victory Lane through a nationally broadcasted radio segment.

“When I heard about Victory Lane’s camp sessions, I thought how I would love to participate in a camp for children with disabilities. Both my husband and I are special education teachers,” Alyn explained. “I signed up for Victory Lane emails and received them for years before actually attending camp with my family.”

During the Refresh Weekend, Alyn had the opportunity to connect with other women by cooking together, having a game night, and kayaking. She also enjoyed morning stretching, exploring the town of Shipshewana, and being able to relax for the weekend.

“The weekend was such a huge blessing, and I was so thankful for a weekend away and getting to know all of the lovely ladies that were there,” Alyn continued. “The surprise of surprises was a few weeks after, I got mail that included notes from all of the ladies that attended, and it truly touched my heart.”

Events like the Women’s Refresh Weekend would not be possible if it weren’t for the generosity of all the Victory Lane donors. In November, the guys will have their turn with the Men’s Recharge weekend, which will also take place in Shipshewana.
